Types of
Computer networks
Every type
of network are done for specific purpose. Some of them are of personal uses,
company or organization. There are three types of computer networks, they are:-
1, LAN (Local
Area Network)
The type of
network which is uses for local are purpose is known as LAN. In other word LAN
is the computer network which relatively occupies small geographical area, Such
as a single room or a building.
Advantage of LAN
1, Setup cost is low
2, Easy to configuration or build
3, Easy to manage
4, Data transmission rate is high
Disadvantage
of LAN
1, It covers small geographical region
2, Limitation in exchanging information
2, MAN
(Metropolitan Area Network)
A Metropolitan
Area Network (MAN) is a computer network that occupies a geographical area that
is larger than a Local Area Network (LAN) but smaller that a Wide Area Network
(WAN). MANs are typically used to connect multiple LANs with in a metropolitan
area or city.
Advantage
of MAN
1, It provide higher security
2, It cover wide area than LAN Network
3, Higher bandwidth
Disadvantage
of MAN
1, Larger network difficult to maintain
2, Difficult to protect from hackers
3, WAN
(Wide Area Network)
It is types
of computer network which is spread all over the world. WANs are typically used
to connect multiple LANs and MANs together to enable communication and data transfer
between different locations.
Advantage
of WAN
1, It covers large geographical area
2, Easy to update the data and information
3, Scope of activities is not limited
Disadvantage
of WAN
1, Setup cost is higher
2, More chance to occur errors
3, Need more handler to manage
4, Provide high security to protect from hackers
